The dragon is unique because it’s the only mythical creature celebrated in the lunar calendar. This year’s element is wood which symbolizes growth, success, and the phases of development. Wood reminds us of our aspirations for progress, health, and positive achievements. The Wood Dragon represents strength, charisma, and boundless enthusiasm, asking us to utilize our ambitious energies for steady growth.
We extend the annual tradition of heartfelt wishes and the auspicious blessings the Wood Dragon year brings - wishing everyone a year filled with strength, fortune, innovation, and dynamic transformations. 2023 - Year of the Water Rabbit & Precious Cat
In 2023 we celebrated the Lunar New Year - Year of the Water Tiger in Chinese cultures, and Year of the Precious Cat in Vietnamese cultures. We celebrated these both of these cultural traditions, and we shared the following message with the community:
Happy Lunar New Year! We wish you and your families a new year full of joy, prosperity, but most importantly, good health. We’re excited to celebrate the Lunar New Year on January 22nd and welcome the year of the Water Rabbit.
The Rabbit is a sign of hope, peace, and prosperity. I am hopeful that world peace, especially those suffering in Ukraine will obtain the JUST PEACE that is long overdue. The celebrations of Lunar New year will be colorful, loud, and beautiful expressions of joy across our Valley - reflecting the diversity of our communities.
May your wish comes true, healthy, and like rabbit leaps and bounds.
We have a lot of work ahead of us this year - and we still need to take care of our health. Please let us know how we can help. I have one ask for this new year - please join our efforts to stand up to stop hate - especially against the AAPI and LGBTQ+ community. We need to create more safe spaces for everyone to thrive across our community, and that is the greatest gift we can offer to have a prosperous year.
Let’s celebrate the beauty and richness of our diverse holidays, people, and creativity that can be found in every corner of our County. Happy New Year! May this be a successful year for all of you - Thank you.

2022 - Year of the Water Tiger
In 2022 we celebrated the Lunar New Year - Year of the Water Tiger. We shared the following message with the community:
May the Year of the Tiger reinvigorate us with the strength of our convictions, the courage to move forward, and the compassion to lift those around you.
We are excited to celebrate the Year of the Water Tiger with you and our families. Last year was the Year of the Metal Ox, and it was a hard-working and tiring year. Now this year we embrace the spirit of the Tiger and with strength and vitality as we face the new year ahead.
The coming year we need the bravery and courage of the tiger to help carry us through. We think of the expression, “one will not get the tiger cub without entering the tiger den”, and that we have a lot to gain ahead of us, but only if we take the steps necessary to face what’s ahead.
We wish you and your family great prosperity and health in the year ahead, and enjoy a wonderful feast with your loved ones to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
It is an honor to serve the families of County of Santa Clara, and we look forward to the year ahead.

Chúng tôi rất vui mừng, Mừng Xuân Năm Nhâm Dần với bạn và tất cả các gia. Năm ngoái là năm Con Trâu, và đó là một năm làm việc chăm chỉ và mệt mỏi. Năm nay là năm Nhâm Dần và với tinh thần và sức mạnh của một con Hổ, sẽ giúp chúng ta đối mặt với năm mới phía trước.
Năm này, chúng ta cần sự dũng cảm và can đảm của con hổ để giúp chúng ta vượt qua những khó khan trong năm. Chúng ta nghĩ về cụm từ" không vào hang cọp làm sao bắt được cọp con", và rằng chúng ta có rất nhiều thứ để đạt được trước mắt, nhưng chỉ khi nào chúng ta thực hiện các bước cần thiết để đối mặt với những gì phía trước.
Chúng tôi chúc bạn và gia đình bạn một năm mới an khang, thịnh vượng và tận hưởng một năm mới với những người thân yêu của bạn để ăn mừng Tết Nguyên đán.

我們很高興與您和家人們一起慶祝壬寅新年。去年是辛醜牛年，是辛勤勞作的一年。而此刻，我們懷揣猛虎精神，重振雄風，迎接新的一年。新的一年，我們需要猛虎的勇氣來助我們克服難關。眾所周知，“不入虎穴，焉得虎子”，未來的一年我們會有很多收獲，但前提是采取必要的行動面對等待我們的一切。
我們祝願您和您的家人在新的一年裏事業蒸蒸日上，生活欣欣向榮，與親朋一起享受美好的盛宴，慶祝農歷新年。很榮幸能為聖塔克拉拉縣的所有家庭服務，我們期待新的一年的到來。
We joined community from across County of Santa Clara and our Vietnamese neighbors at History Park in San José for the Lunar New Year 2022 Event on January 29, 2022. In 2021, we celebrated the Lunar New Year - Year of the Metal Ox/Water Buffalo. We shared the following message with the community:
We wish you and your loved ones a Happy Lunar New Year! Like the Ox/Water Buffalo, we must be diligent and persistent in our efforts to emerge this spring healthier and stronger. We are beginning to move beyond this pandemic's harm to our communities, and I know that if we can sustain our efforts to socially distance, wear face masks (even two), and stay at home, the Year of the Ox/Water Buffalo will bring an end to this health crisis.
The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department reminds us that COVID is still circulating in the community, therefore, we have to celebrate the Lunar New Year differently this year. We can still keep our New Year traditions: both reunion dinner and giving red envelopes can be done virtually.
