Supervisor Otto Lee joins delegation to greet President Biden before touring storm damaged areas

County of Santa Clara, CA - On January 19, 2023, as Vice President of the Board, Supervisor Otto Lee represented the County of Santa Clara to welcome President Biden in Watsonville before the President toured the storm damaged areas in the Counties of Santa Cruz and Santa Clara.

“It was an honor to join members of Congress, State leaders, and local officials from Santa Cruz and Monterey counties to greet President Biden. These recent historic storms caused severe damage and havoc across California. We are grateful to have the President visit our region to see the impacts first-hand,” said Supervisor Otto Lee.

Extreme winter weather has beat down on California for the past few weeks, and County of Santa Clara has been significantly affected by these storms. Early estimates have over $25 million in initial damages to just public infrastructure, and locations like Alum Rock Park will remain closed for an extensive period of time. Economically fragile communities in the rural areas of our unincorporated areas were most dramatically impacted - especially South County and Eastern County. Many major access roads saw the most damage.

“Even though our meeting with the President was brief, he cares about our plight, and we look forward to having his leadership support our recovery,” added Supervisor Lee. “We join our local Congressional delegation urging for Santa Clara County to be included in all forms of federal assistance because the funding is absolutely crucial.”
